The Fix PDP, Fix Nigeria group has faulted comments credited to former Ekiti State Governor, Ayo Fayose, regarding the recent meeting between President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, describing them as mischievous and misleading.
The group reacted to Fayose’s claim that Governor Makinde allegedly required the presence of Plateau State Governor, Caleb Muftwang, to accompany him to the Presidential Villa, Abuja, as he could not face the President alone.
In a statement issued on Friday in Abuja and signed by Mr. Moses Odibo, a member of the group from Delta State, the pro-PDP organisation described Fayose’s remarks as outlandish and an attempt to curry favour and remain relevant, allegedly in service to the embattled Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.
“It did not come as a surprise to well-meaning Nigerians that Mr. Fayose would resort to such distasteful and unfounded claims. The suggestion that a sitting governor, and a prominent one at that, would require another governor to secure an audience with the President is both laughable and misleading,” the statement said.
The group further noted that Fayose’s portrayal of President Tinubu does not reflect the true character of the President, whom it described as a father figure to all Nigerians.
“The President has granted audience to individuals of far lesser political standing than Governor Makinde. The decision of Governor Makinde to attend the meeting alongside his brother governor from Plateau State was simply a demonstration of camaraderie and unity that transcends party lines,” the statement added.
The group criticised what it described as Fayose’s brand of politics, noting that such conduct was unbecoming of a former governor.
“Governor Makinde holds the President in high esteem, but remains firm on issues of party politics and governance. He is answerable only to the people of Oyo State, not to the dictates of political opportunists,” the group said.
The Fix PDP, Fix Nigeria group urged Nigerians to disregard Fayose’s comments, describing them as the rantings of an individual seeking attention by spreading falsehoods and casting aspersions on leaders of integrity.
