A political rally organised by the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, witnessed the defection of several politicians and their supporters from different political parties.
The event, held on Sunday in the state capital, attracted participants from across Bayelsa’s eight local government areas despite heavy rainfall, as party leaders used the occasion to present the NDC’s vision and welcome new members.
Addressing supporters at the gathering, the National Chairman of the party, Moses Cleopas, described the NDC as a political platform open to Nigerians seeking alternative participation in the country’s democratic process.
Cleopas also acknowledged the role of the party’s national leader, Henry Seriake Dickson, in establishing the movement. Dickson, a former two-term governor of Bayelsa State, currently represents Bayelsa West Senatorial District in the Senate.
In his remarks, the Bayelsa State Chairman of the party, Dauperebo Ikuromo, thanked supporters for attending the rally and encouraged members to remain committed to the party’s programmes.
One of the major highlights of the event was the announcement of defections from members of several political parties, including the All Progressives Congress (APC), the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the African Democratic Congress (ADC), and the Labour Party (LP).
A former member of the APC, Hon. Selekebina Saboh, announced his defection to the NDC alongside a large number of supporters from across the state. Similarly, Hon. Wilson Ayakpo Dayegha from Ekeremor Local Government Area declared his support for the party.
Other party officials and stakeholders present at the event included Hon. Pabra Igwele, State Deputy Chairman of the NDC; Hon. Fyneman Wilson; Dr. O. Osusu; Hon. Salo Adikumo; Chief Suru Oyarede; Hon. Wisdom Fafi; and Hon. Oyinke Godbless.
The rally forms part of ongoing political activities in Bayelsa State as parties intensify consultations and mobilisation ahead of future elections.
