President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved a minor cabinet adjustment that sees the appointment of Mr. Taiwo Oyedele as the new Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy.
According to a memo issued by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, Oyedele is to take over the portfolio previously held by Mr. Wale Edun. Prior to this elevation, Oyedele served as Minister of State in the same ministry.
The memo also announced Mr. Muttaqha Rabe Darma as the ministerial nominee and minister-designate for the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development, replacing Arc. Ahmed Musa Dangiwa.
Akume directed the affected ministers to conclude all handing-over procedures to their successors or supervising officials no later than the close of business on Thursday, April 23, 2026.
Providing insight into the development, the SGF said the adjustment was intended to strengthen collaboration within the cabinet and enhance delivery on economic priorities under the administration’s governance agenda.
He noted that the President exercised his constitutional authority under Sections 147 and 148 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended) in effecting the changes.
The President also expressed appreciation to the outgoing ministers for their service to the country and wished them success in their future endeavours.
Akume added that the administration would continue to review and revitalise governance structures to improve performance and service delivery.
