The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has recorded another political boost in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) following the defection of youth politician, Obinna Simon, popularly known as MC Tagwaye, alongside his supporters, into the party.
Tagwaye, a former member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Social Democratic Party (SDP) candidate in the last Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) chairmanship election, was formally received into the party by the National Leader of the NDC, Senator Henry Seriake Dickson, the National Chairman, Senator Moses Cleopas, members of the National Working Committee, the FCT Chairman of the party, Hon. Haruna Pai, and other senior party officials.
While presenting the new entrant to the party leadership, the FCT Chairman, Hon. Haruna Pai, described Tagwaye as a widely known political figure in the FCT with a strong grassroots presence. He assured him that members of the party across all wards in the territory would work closely with him to strengthen the party’s structure.
Welcoming him into the party, the National Chairman of the NDC, Senator Moses Cleopas, disclosed that the party had engaged Tagwaye in a series of consultations before his decision to formally join.
According to him, the engagements convinced the leadership that Tagwaye shared the values and vision of the party.
He explained that the FCT Chairman had initially presented Tagwaye to him and that the leadership deemed it necessary to formally introduce and decorate him before the party’s National Leader.
Tagwaye was subsequently decorated with the NDC fez cap and issued a membership card by the National Chairman and other party leaders.
Speaking at the occasion, the National Leader of the NDC, Senator Henry Seriake Dickson, welcomed Tagwaye into the party and described the Nigeria Democratic Congress as a stable political platform free from internal crises, litigation, or factional divisions.
He thanked Nigerians for the growing confidence in the party and urged citizens to take advantage of the ongoing nationwide membership registration drive.
Dickson also noted that the NDC remained committed to building a credible political alternative capable of repositioning Nigeria for progress, unity and good governance.
In his remarks, Tagwaye expressed appreciation to the party leadership for the warm reception, describing his entry into the NDC as both a privilege and a responsibility.
He explained that his decision to join the party was motivated by the desire to contribute to the building of a better Nigeria rather than personal ambition.
According to him, after the elections and the internal challenges within his former party, his supporters had repeatedly asked about his next political step, which eventually led to consultations that culminated in his decision to join the NDC.
He said joining the party was also a commitment to be part of a movement determined to address injustice, insecurity, poor governance and other national challenges.
Tagwaye further stated that his political network and support base extended beyond the FCT to several states across the country and pledged to mobilise support for the NDC nationwide.
He also affirmed that he had joined the party exclusively and was ready to carry out any responsibility assigned to him by the party leadership.
The new NDC member also appreciated Barrister Amanda Pam, who attended the event, describing her as a key figure in the political landscape of the FCT and acknowledging her support and guidance throughout his political journey.Observers say Tagwaye’s defection is another sign of the growing momentum of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, particularly among youth leaders and grassroots political actors in the Federal Capital Territory and across the country.
