The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has moved to quell a leadership crisis in its Kano State chapter, reaffirming Hon. Husaini Isah Mai Riga as the substantive chairman following decisive intervention by the party’s national leadership.
The resolution was reached after a special meeting convened by the party’s national leader, Seriake Henry Dickson, which brought together key stakeholders, including former Kano State Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, Northwest Vice Chairman Muhammad Sabo Bakin Zuwo, and other senior party figures. The meeting came on the heels of a brief internal disagreement that arose within the state chapter after recent political developments.
At the end of deliberations, the leadership resolved that Mai Riga should continue in office, a decision aimed at restoring stability and strengthening unity within the party in Kano.
The intervention of Kwankwaso, leader of the Kwankwasiyya Movement, was widely credited with helping to broker peace and ensure an amicable resolution among aggrieved members.
In his reaction, Mai Riga expressed gratitude to the national leadership and stakeholders for their support during the crisis.
He also extended an apology to anyone he may have offended in the course of the dispute, appealing for forgiveness and renewed cooperation.
Describing the outcome as a reflection of the party’s maturity, he called on members to remain united and focused ahead of future political engagements. He further offered prayers for the success of the NDC in forthcoming elections, as well as for peace, stability, and progress across Nigeria.
