The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has announced a series of far-reaching resolutions aimed at strengthening its internal structures, promoting accountability, and institutionalizing party governance across all levels.
The resolutions were contained in a press statement issued on June 7, 2026, by the National Publicity Secretary of the party, Osa Director, following the party’s second National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting. According to the statement, the decisions form part of the NDC’s commitment to building a strong and enduring political institution anchored on party supremacy and collective responsibility.
As part of the resolutions, the party directed that all governments elected on its platform must consult the party structure before making major decisions on policies, programmes, and appointments, with the exception of personal staff appointments. The NDC stressed that elected officials must align their interests and actions with the objectives of the party.
The party also resolved that all affiliated groups and non-governmental organizations linked to the NDC must operate under its guidance and control, and should not function independently of the established party structure.
To strengthen discipline and accountability, the NEC approved the establishment of a comprehensive Code of Conduct for party officials and candidates. A committee headed by the National Legal Adviser has been constituted to develop the framework and operational guidelines.
In a move aimed at fostering unity within its ranks, the party inaugurated a National Reconciliation Committee tasked with engaging and reconciling aggrieved members across the country.
The NDC further emphasized that it is being developed as a lasting institution rather than a personality-driven platform or temporary political vehicle. It urged members, aspirants, and candidates to demonstrate total allegiance to the party and the national interest.
On financial management, the party announced strict measures to ensure accountability in the use of party resources. It directed that all party funds be utilized solely for party business, while candidates at all levels must fully disclose campaign funding sources and channel all campaign-related funds through designated party accounts.
The party expressed confidence that the resolutions would deepen internal democracy, strengthen party cohesion, and position the NDC as a sustainable political institution for future generations.
