The Nigeria Police Force has intensified efforts to promote gender inclusion and strengthen institutional leadership with the commencement of a five-day leadership development programme for female police officers across the country.
The initiative, supported by the Government of Germany and organised in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), GS Foundation, CLEEN Foundation, and the Nigeria Police Reform Secretariat, is designed to equip women officers with advanced leadership, strategic management, and modern policing skills.
Participants, drawn from various Police Commands and Formations nationwide, are expected to enhance their leadership capacity and professional competence, positioning them for greater responsibilities within the Force while contributing to more effective and gender-responsive policing.
Declaring the programme open on behalf of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Training and Development, AIG Uche Ifeanyi Henry, reaffirmed the Force’s commitment to continuous personnel development as a key pillar of ongoing police reforms. He urged participants to take full advantage of the training by actively engaging in all sessions and applying the knowledge gained to improve service delivery and leadership performance.
Delivering the keynote address, Prof. Olu Ogunsakin, Director-General of the National Institute of Police Studies, described leadership development for female officers as critical to strengthening professionalism, institutional effectiveness, and operational excellence within the Nigeria Police Force.
The programme reflects the Nigeria Police Force’s broader commitment to investing in human capital development, advancing gender equality, and implementing reforms aimed at enhancing professionalism and improving policing services nationwide.
