The Federal Government has moved to ease concerns among parents and guardians ahead of the reopening of Federal Unity Colleges, assuring that adequate security arrangements are in place for the safe return of students on Monday, September 14.
The Federal Ministry of Education, in a statement issued by its Director of Press and Public Relations, Folasade Boriowo, said all Federal Unity Colleges nationwide would resume academic activities as scheduled.
Boriowo quoted the Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, as saying the safety and wellbeing of students and staff remained a priority of the Federal Government.
According to the statement, relevant security agencies have been informed of the resumption plans and are maintaining heightened vigilance around the colleges and their immediate environments.
Alausa therefore urged parents and guardians to remain calm and rely on official information as they make arrangements for their children and wards to return to school on Monday.
The Minister also directed school authorities to maintain close coordination with security agencies and other relevant authorities to ensure an orderly and secure resumption.
He called on students, teachers, parents, administrators and other members of the school communities to play their part in maintaining a peaceful and safe learning environment.
The Ministry said it would continue to monitor developments and work with relevant authorities to take necessary measures to safeguard students and staff as academic activities resume.
It added that the arrangements were part of the Federal Government’s broader effort to provide Nigerian children with access to quality education in a safe and conducive , in line with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
