The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has directed its state chapters to stop collecting money from support groups seeking registration, declaring that such registration is free and can only be handled by the party’s Directorate of Support Groups at its national headquarters in Abuja.
The directive was contained in a statement signed by the NDC National Publicity Secretary, Osa Director, Esq., following reports that some state chairmen were demanding registration fees from support groups affiliated with the party.
The party said registration of support groups “does not attract any fee whatsoever,” warning that no state chapter, officer or other party official is authorized to register such groups or collect money for that purpose.
According to the statement, all inquiries and registration requests must be directed to the Directorate of Support Groups at the party’s National Headquarters in Abuja.
The NDC consequently directed all state chapters to comply strictly with the directive, stressing that any violation would attract disciplinary action in accordance with the party’s constitution.
The development effectively centralises the registration process for support groups, with the party seeking to establish a uniform procedure for organisations working with or supporting its political activities across the country.
The party said it values the support and partnership of various support groups, specifically mentioning the Obidient and Kwankwasiya Movements, and pledged to provide an enabling environment for them to contribute to the party’s activities and electoral efforts.
The NDC urged its support groups and prospective affiliates to deal directly with the designated national directorate rather than individuals or state officials demanding payment for registration.
The directive comes as political parties and affiliated support groups intensify organisational activities ahead of future electoral contests.
