Twenty prospective National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members abducted in Imo State have been rescued after six days in captivity following a sustained search-and-rescue operation by the Police and other security agencies.

The Nigeria Police Force disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday, saying the victims were safely recovered at about 4:28 p.m. at Amakohia Ubi Village in Imo State.

According to the statement, the rescue followed sustained and coordinated operations involving the Police and sister security agencies after the prospective corps members were abducted on October 1, 2026.

The rescued victims have since been taken for medical examination and necessary medical attention as part of the post-rescue process.

The Police said the operation was strengthened by operational coordination and collaboration among the security agencies involved in the search for the victims.

While the 20 prospective corps members have regained their freedom, the security agencies are yet to apprehend those responsible for the abduction.

The Police said efforts have therefore been intensified to track down and arrest the suspects, with a view to bringing them to justice.

The Force appreciated members of the public for their cooperation and support during the rescue operation.

It also reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property and responding promptly to threats to public safety.

The Police said further updates would be provided as necessary.
