The National Leader of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Senator Henry Seriake Dickson, has called on party stakeholders, aspirants and members to unite behind the party’s candidates as preparations intensify for the 2027 general elections.
Dickson made the call after a fresh round of high-level consultations with the NDC presidential candidate, Mr Peter Obi, his running mate, Dr Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, and other senior leaders of the party.
The meeting, held at Dickson’s Abuja residence, was attended by the NDC National Chairman, Senator Moses Cleopas Zuwoghe, the two Deputy National Chairmen and other party leaders.
In a statement posted on his Facebook page, Dickson said the meeting formed part of ongoing consultations and deliberations on issues concerning the party and the nation.
He disclosed that the party leadership had met two days earlier and reconvened to further deliberate and finalise decisions, particularly on preparations for the unveiling of the NDC Campaign Council ahead of the 2027 elections.
The renewed consultations come as the party moves to strengthen its campaign machinery following its directive to candidates nationwide to commence campaigns in their respective states and constituencies in accordance with the timetable of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Dickson, a former governor of Bayelsa State, urged party members to put aside differences and work collectively for the success of the NDC’s candidates at all levels.
“At this critical stage, I call on all stakeholders, aspirants and members of our great Party to unite, close ranks and work collectively for the success of our candidates at all levels, from top to bottom,” he said.
The appeal comes amid intensified efforts by the NDC leadership to consolidate its political structure and establish a coordinated national campaign ahead of the elections.
The repeated consultations involving Obi, Kwankwaso and Dickson also point to efforts at the highest level of the party to build consensus and resolve outstanding issues ahead of the unveiling of the campaign council.
With campaigns already commencing across the country, the party is expected to use the campaign council as a central platform for coordinating its presidential, governorship, National Assembly and other candidates.
Dickson’s call for unity therefore places internal cohesion and collective mobilisation at the heart of the NDC’s immediate strategy as the party prepares to take its 2027 campaign into full gear.
