A member of the National Working Committee (NWC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Hon. Durotolu Oyebode Bankole, has warned prospective presidential aspirants ahead of the 2027 general election to shelve their ambitions, describing any challenge to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as a waste of resources. He urged Nigerians to rally behind the President, whom he said is repositioning the country through far-reaching reforms and transformative policies.
In a press statement issued in Abuja on Tuesday and signed by him, Bankole said President Tinubu is set for a decisive victory in 2027 owing to his “unprecedented achievements and growing public support.”
He described the President as a visionary leader and architect of a renewed Nigeria, adding that the administration’s track record has converted initial scepticism into widespread approval.
Bankole recalled that President Tinubu won the 2023 presidential election with 8,794,726 votes, defeating Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP), who polled 6,984,520 and 6,101,533 votes respectively. He noted that although the election was keenly contested, Tinubu met the constitutional spread requirement and emerged victorious in 12 states, underscoring the strength of Nigeria’s democratic process.
According to him, the political landscape has since shifted significantly, with recent polls indicating a surge in the President’s approval rating to over 50 per cent. He cited NOIPolls data showing that the administration’s reforms in agriculture, food security, and economic stabilization have won public confidence, transforming what was once a narrow electoral victory into what he described as a broad-based mandate.
The APC chieftain highlighted major infrastructure investments under the Tinubu administration, including over 440 ongoing road projects and the construction of more than 2,700 kilometres of highways such as the Lagos–Calabar Coastal Highway and the Sokoto–Badagry corridor. He added that these projects have attracted billions of dollars in foreign direct investment and boosted oil production and government revenue.
Bankole also pointed to achievements in housing, education, and economic policy, citing the Renewed Hope Cities and Estates programme, the student loan scheme, investments in medical education, and the Energising Education Project. He further noted improvements in GDP growth, the introduction of a ₦70,000 minimum wage, and the expansion of the Compressed Natural Gas initiative as evidence of th economic reforms.
