A delegation of elders and senior government officials from Nasarawa State on Monday formally submitted the Expression of Interest and Nomination forms for Governor Abdullahi Sule to contest the Nasarawa North Senatorial seat under the All Progressives Congress (APC), signaling his entry into the 2027 race.
The forms were presented at the party’s secretariat by a team led by former Secretary to the State Government, Timothy Anjide, who said the governor’s decision followed sustained and “unanimous” pressure from stakeholders and constituents across the senatorial district. The district comprises Akwanga, Nasarawa Eggon, and Wamba Local Government Areas.
Speaking to journalists after the submission, Anjide explained that the delegation deliberately took responsibility for filing the nomination on behalf of the governor to underscore that the move was driven by public demand rather than personal ambition. “He has succumbed under great pressure to our demand that he should contest. We insisted on presenting the forms ourselves to show goodwill and that we are the ones calling him,” he said.
According to the delegation, drafting the governor into the legislative race is aimed at sustaining the development strides recorded under his administration, particularly in human capital and infrastructure. Anjide described Sule as a leader with an “untainted vision,” adding that his experience in governance would be instrumental in attracting greater benefits to Nasarawa State at the national level.
“He is not going to do anything entirely new but will leverage his experience in public service to continue to attract what is best for the state,” Anjide noted, describing the governor as a “golden fish” whose presence in the Senate would be of value to both the state and the country.
Members of the Nasarawa State Executive Council, campaign officials, and supporters from across the senatorial zone were present during the submission. Officials of the APC received the documents and assured the delegation of a fair and transparent process ahead of the party’s primary elections.
