The Nigeria Police Force has intensified efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s criminal justice system, with Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Olatunji Rilwan Disu seeking closer collaboration with the Judiciary to improve investigations, prosecution and the timely dispensation of justice.
The IGP made the call during a courtesy visit to the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Kudirat Olatokunbo Kekere-Ekun, on Thursday in Abuja, according to a statement issued on Friday by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Anietie Okokon Edem Iniedu.
During the visit, Disu commended the Judiciary for its role in upholding judicial integrity, constitutional governance and the rule of law, describing the Police and the Judiciary as indispensable partners in the administration of criminal justice.
He stressed the need for sustained collaboration between both institutions to enhance the quality of criminal investigations, strengthen prosecution support and ensure the speedy dispensation of justice.
The Inspector-General also underscored the importance of the effective implementation of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act (ACJA) and corresponding state laws, noting that proper enforcement of the legal framework would help reduce delays in criminal proceedings.
Disu further highlighted the Nigeria Police Force’s ongoing investments in forensic science, intelligence-led policing and digital investigation capabilities, saying stronger collaboration with the Judiciary in deploying technology and expanding capacity-building programmes would further improve criminal justice delivery.
According to the statement, the visit forms part of the Force’s broader strategy to deepen institutional partnerships that enhance public confidence in the justice system and promote the rule of law.
The Police reaffirmed their commitment to working closely with the Judiciary and other critical stakeholders to build a safer, more secure and more just society.
