The Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, has applauded the successful rescue of the pupils and teachers abducted from Oriire community in Ogbomoso, Oyo State, describing the operation as a major victory for national security and a strong reassurance of the Federal Government’s commitment to protecting schools across the country.
Speaking through his Special Adviser on Media and Communications, Ikharo Attah, the Minister congratulated President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for providing the leadership that ensured the victims were rescued safely, while commending the coordinated efforts of security agencies and the Oyo State Government.
Dr. Alausa said the successful operation demonstrated the growing synergy between the Federal Government, state authorities and security agencies in tackling insecurity and safeguarding the lives of Nigerians, particularly schoolchildren.
He also praised Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, for working closely with security agencies throughout the rescue mission and for prioritising the welfare, rehabilitation and reintegration of the rescued pupils and teachers.
The Minister further commended the Armed Forces of Nigeria, the Department of State Services (DSS), the Nigeria Police Force and other security and intelligence agencies for their professionalism, courage and coordinated response, which led to the safe rescue of the victims and the arrest of those responsible for the abduction.
According to him, the successful operation has renewed public confidence in the nation’s security architecture and offered hope to families affected by the incident.
Dr. Alausa expressed sympathy to the rescued pupils, teachers and their families for the trauma they experienced during their captivity, praying for their speedy physical and emotional recovery.
He reaffirmed the Federal Ministry of Education’s commitment to strengthening school safety nationwide through collaboration with relevant stakeholders, in line with President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
The Minister also urged parents, communities, school administrators and other stakeholders to remain vigilant and continue supporting security agencies to ensure schools remain safe spaces for teaching and learning.
