The National President of the Police Officers’ Wives Association (POWA), Chief Mrs. Olufunmilola Disu, has embarked on an unannounced welfare outreach to police barracks in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), providing immediate support to vulnerable police families as preparations gather pace for the 2026 POWA National Convention.
According to a statement issued by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Aniete Okokon Edem Iniedu, the surprise visits took place on July 14 and 15 at the Area C Police Barracks, Nyanya, and the 44 Police Mobile Force (PMF) Barracks in Kuje.
During the visits, Chief Mrs. Disu and members of the POWA management team toured markets within the barracks, interacting directly with women traders, widows, and spouses of police officers. The team observed poorly stocked shops and listened to the economic hardships facing many police households.
To provide immediate relief, the POWA President distributed cash grants, business starter packs, and food items to selected beneficiaries, enabling them to restock their businesses and improve their families’ livelihoods. Beneficiaries expressed gratitude, describing the intervention as timely and impactful.
Speaking during the outreach, Chief Mrs. Disu explained that the visits were intentionally kept unannounced to enable the association gain a genuine understanding of the living conditions and challenges confronting police families.
She noted that firsthand engagement with beneficiaries would help POWA develop more practical and responsive welfare programmes capable of addressing their real needs.
The statement noted that the intervention was carried out under the POWA CARES Initiative, a programme focused on healthcare, welfare, and economic empowerment for police families. It added that the initiative aligns with the Renewed Hope Agenda of the First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu.
The outreach also serves as a prelude to the 2026 POWA National Convention, scheduled to hold from July 16 to 18 under the theme, “The Resilient Woman: Navigating Life’s Challenges with Strength, Purpose and Grace.” The convention is expected to focus on healthcare, mental wellness, economic empowerment, and family support systems for police families.
The Nigeria Police Force reaffirmed its commitment to improving the welfare of serving officers’ families and ensuring sustained, dignity-preserving support for widows of fallen personnel.
