The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has disowned a purported Presidential Campaign Council announced under the na me “OK Movement,” declaring that the structure did not emanate from the party.
In a statement issued by the National Chairman of the party, Senator Cleopas Moses, the NDC said the publication credited to John Ugulu should be disregarded by the public and the media.
The party maintained that only its leadership has the authority to constitute and announce a Presidential Campaign Council or any other official campaign structure.
It warned that no individual, candidate or support group was authorised to announce, constitute or publish any campaign council, structure or organ in the name of the party without prior approval from the National Working Committee.
The NDC said its candidates were contesting elections on the platform of the party and therefore remained subject to its authority and discipline.
While acknowledging the contributions of support groups, the party said such groups should not regard themselves as alternative or parallel structures of the NDC.
The party also urged members and support groups with grievances to use the appropriate internal channels to seek resolution rather than engaging in public attacks against the party.
On the action against Ugulu, the NDC said he had been referred to the appropriate disciplinary organ for necessary action in line with the provisions of the party’s constitution.
According to the statement, the decision followed what the party described as Ugulu’s “excesses” during the primary election in Lagos State and his repeated disregard for party authority.
The NDC said it remained focused on its issue-based campaign and its objective of delivering a “New Nigeria that is Possible.”
