The political landscape in Kogi East came alive on Wednesday as Senator Isah Jibrin, popularly known as Echocho, formally declared his intention to contest the Kogi East Senatorial seat in the 2027 general elections.
The declaration ceremony, held at the All Progressives Congress (APC) Secretariat in Anyigba, attracted a massive turnout of party leaders, political stakeholders, youth and women groups, and supporters from across the nine local government areas of the district.
The crowd, which filled the venue to capacity, turned the event into a major political rally and a strong show of support for the senator’s continued representation of Kogi East in the National Assembly.
Addressing supporters, Echocho said his decision to seek re-election was informed by the need to sustain effective representation, consolidate ongoing development efforts and continue protecting the interests of the district at the national level.
He thanked Kogi State Governor Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, Deputy Governor Comrade Joel Salifu Oyibo, party leaders and supporters for their unwavering backing over the years.
The senator said his service in the Senate has been focused on attracting infrastructure projects, expanding educational opportunities, empowering youths and women, and maintaining close contact with constituents across Kogi East.
Echocho described the overwhelming turnout at the declaration as a reflection of the trust and confidence the people have continued to place in his leadership.
He also praised the Auditor General, YY Okala, whom he described as a dependable ally whose strategic contributions have strengthened the political movement.
Stakeholders who spoke at the event lauded the senator’s performance, citing his accessibility, constituency projects and commitment to grassroots development as reasons for their support.
Political observers said the unprecedented crowd in Anyigba has further solidified Echocho’s position as one of the most influential political figures in Kogi East ahead of the 2027 elections.
For supporters, the declaration marked not just the start of another campaign, but a renewed endorsement of a lawmaker they believe has consistently delivered and remained closely connected to the people.
