The All Progressives Congress (APC) has dismissed as false and baseless media reports suggesting that Vice President Kashim Shettima may be replaced as President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s running mate ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In a press statement issued in Abuja on Monday, January 26, 2026, the party said it was concerned about what it described as “needless speculations” and a growing media frenzy surrounding the 2027 presidential ticket of the ruling party.
The APC noted that while the rumours initially appeared subtle, they had recently escalated with the circulation of names of individuals allegedly being considered as replacements for Vice President Shettima.
“Our party states in categorical terms that the stories are purely speculative, untrue and utterly baseless,” the statement said.
Signed by the APC National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, CON, the party urged media organisations to refrain from amplifying what it described as rumours promoted by “mischievous news sources of questionable provenance,” warning that such reports only serve to fuel confusion and discord in the polity.
The ruling party stressed that, under existing laws and electoral regulations, the ban on political activities remains in force, adding that discussions around the 2027 elections are premature.
“At this time, our party remains focused on supporting President Bola Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima in delivering the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda,” the APC said, noting that the Tinubu-led government is implementing bold reforms aimed at transforming the economy, building prosperity and improving the living conditions of Nigerians.
The party also cautioned ministers, senior government officials and party leaders against making statements that could, directly or indirectly, encourage speculation about the 2027 elections.
It called on party and government officials to concentrate on their primary responsibility of effective service delivery and to strengthen support for the success and achievements of President Tinubu, whom it described as a visionary leader.
The APC reaffirmed its commitment to party unity and stability, urging Nigerians to disregard unfounded reports and remain focused on governance and national development.
