The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, has warned aspirants seeking elective positions on the party’s platform to conduct themselves with discipline and maturity ahead of the 2027 primaries, cautioning that anyone involved in violence, anti-party activities or any attempt to compromise the process will face sanctions, including suspension.
Yilwatda issued the warning on Monday while addressing aspirants who recently completed screening exercises conducted by party committees across the country. He said the APC would not tolerate violence, unrest, or any action capable of undermining the integrity of its primaries.
He stressed that the party remained committed to transparent, peaceful, credible and democratic primaries that would further strengthen internal democracy and consolidate the confidence Nigerians continue to repose in the ruling party.
According to him, no individual ambition should be allowed to override the collective interest of the party and the stability of the nation.
“In every democratic contest, only one person will eventually emerge victorious. What is important is the spirit with which the process is approached. I urge all aspirants to display maturity, patriotism and good sportsmanship by embracing the outcome of the primaries in the overall interest of the party and our democracy,” he said.
The APC chairman urged aspirants to see themselves as ambassadors of the party, noting that their conduct before, during and after the primaries should reflect the values, discipline and vision of the APC.
Yilwatda also commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his commitment to strengthening democratic institutions and ensuring the success of the party’s internal processes.
He said the administration’s reforms in infrastructure, agriculture, energy, education, healthcare and the digital economy were laying a solid foundation for long-term growth and the attainment of a $1 trillion economy.
The APC chairman maintained that the achievements recorded under the Renewed Hope Agenda provide a compelling basis for President Tinubu’s re-election in 2027 and called on party members and stakeholders to remain united in support of the administration.
