Leaders of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) have declared that the party has successfully transformed from a newly registered political platform into a nationwide political movement, insisting that its rapid growth signals Nigerians’ desire for a credible alternative in the country’s political space.
Speaking at the party’s second National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting in Abuja, National Leader of the party, Senator Seriake Dickson, and National Chairman, Senator Cleopas Moses Zuwoghe, said the NDC had exceeded expectations by completing key electoral processes within months of its registration.
The party leaders noted that despite widespread skepticism about its ability to survive and meet statutory electoral timelines, the NDC had successfully conducted membership registration, congresses, a national convention and primary elections across the country.
Dickson said the party’s achievements demonstrated its growing acceptance among Nigerians and reflected increasing confidence in its vision for national transformation.
“We have every reason to celebrate. Many doubted us and predicted we would fail, but we have proven that with commitment and determination, a new political movement can emerge and thrive,” he said.
The former Bayelsa State governor described the emergence of the party’s presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Gregory Obi, as a significant milestone and urged members to remain united as the party prepares for future political contests.
He also called on aggrieved aspirants to embrace reconciliation and place the party’s collective interest above personal ambitions.
On his part, Zuwoghe said the speed of the party’s growth had surprised many political observers, noting that several established political parties took years to achieve what the NDC had accomplished within a few months.
According to him, the party’s success was driven by the dedication and sacrifices of its members across the federation.
He said the NDC remained committed to building a strong political alternative capable of addressing Nigeria’s challenges and restoring public confidence in governance.
Both leaders expressed optimism that the party would continue to expand its national reach and consolidate its position as a formidable force in the country’s political landscape.
