The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has launched its campaign drive ahead of the 2027 general elections, directing its candidates across the country to commence grassroots consultations and engagements with voters.
The National Publicity Secretary of the party, Osa Director, Esq., disclosed this in a statement, saying the directive followed the commencement of the campaign period in line with the election timetable released by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Director said candidates for the presidential, National Assembly, governorship and State Assembly elections were expected to liaise with party stakeholders in their respective localities and begin programmes aimed at introducing their candidacies and promoting the party’s message.
He also announced that the party would soon constitute and inaugurate its various campaign committees to coordinate its activities ahead of the elections.
According to him, state, local government and ward chapters of the party have been directed to draw up itineraries for their local campaigns and ensure effective engagement with constituents.
The NDC spokesman stressed that the party’s campaigns must be issue-based and conducted peacefully, warning members and candidates against violence and abusive language.
“The NDC has no room for violence,” he said.
Meanwhile, the party has clarified the status of its logo, saying it has modified the logo in consultation with INEC but is still working to resolve some administrative issues before the new version is officially adopted.
Director therefore directed candidates and members to continue using the existing logo, which features the two-finger victory sign, for campaign activities pending the conclusion of discussions with INEC.
The NDC said the ongoing preparations were aimed at building a coordinated grassroots campaign structure capable of driving its message across the country ahead of the 2027 elections.
