The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has constituted a 20-member National Selection Committee to oversee the screening and selection of aspirants ahead of its forthcoming Governorship and National Assembly primaries.
The party disclosed this in a statement signed by its National Secretary, Ikenna Morgan Enekweizu, who said the decision was approved by the National Leader of the party following recommendations from the National Working Committee (NWC).
According to the statement, the committee is expected to review and scrutinise reports and recommendations submitted by the National Screening Committee and take final decisions on the screening outcomes of all aspirants seeking the party’s tickets.
Former Senator Cleopas Moses Zuwoghe will serve as chairman of the committee, while Barrister Ikenna Morgan Enekweizu will act as secretary.
Other members of the committee include Comrade Babatunde Ali, Alhaji Sidi Abdul Bomi, Alhaji Mohammed Bakin Zuwo, Dr. Danlami Arabs, Barr. Fredrick E. Owotorufa, Chief Teddy Obey, Chief Barnabas J. Ejisi, Pastor Dr. (Mrs.) Adedayo Ekong, Yenusa Tanko, Dr. Moses Paul, Buba Galadima, H.E. Aminu Abdulsalam, Danladi Abdulhamid, Prof. Udenta Udenta, Barr. Reuben Egwuaba, Dudu Mamman Manuga, Dr. Grace N. Onyekusiobi, and Alhaji Shittu Mohammed.
The party appealed to aspirants, stakeholders, and members for patience and cooperation, citing the tight timelines required to conclude the exercise.
The NDC stated that the process was designed to strengthen consensus-building and ensure the emergence of widely acceptable candidates through what it described as a free, fair, and credible mechanism.
It added that only aspirants screened and cleared by both the National Screening Committee and the National Selection Committee would be eligible to purchase nomination forms.
The party further disclosed that direct primaries would be conducted between May 28 and May 30, 2026, in situations where consensus among aspirants could not be achieved.
According to the statement, the National Selection Committee will be formally inaugurated on Monday, May 25, 2026, before commencing its assignment immediately.
