Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau Jibrin, has intensified his grassroots engagement in Kano North Senatorial District, combining economic empowerment with a call for political unity and support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and other All Progressives Congress (APC) candidates ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Barau made the call on Thursday when he received two delegations from Dambatta Local Government Area at the National Assembly.
The meeting provided an opportunity for the senator to highlight his ongoing interventions aimed at strengthening the economic capacity of petty traders, artisans and other vulnerable constituents across Kano North.
According to a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ismail Mudashir, Barau disclosed that one of his regular empowerment initiatives provides N100,000 start-up capital to 1,300 petty traders and other beneficiaries every month.
The programme represents a monthly intervention of N130 million and is part of a broader empowerment strategy covering agriculture, education, infrastructure and small-scale businesses.
Other items distributed under his empowerment initiatives include fertilisers, water pumps, grinding machines, sewing machines, motorcycles, refrigerators and other equipment intended to support beneficiaries in their various trades and businesses.
The delegations comprised representatives from the 21 wards of Dambatta LGA led by Hon. Hafiz Sani Maidaji, a former three-term member of the Kano State House of Assembly, as well as another delegation led by Barau’s Senior Legislative Aide in Dambatta, Alhaji Abdullahi Dan Bayero.
The groups visited the Deputy President of the Senate to appreciate him for the various projects, empowerment programmes and interventions being implemented across Kano North.
Barau assured the people of Dambatta and the wider Kano North Senatorial District that he would sustain his commitment to programmes designed to improve their livelihoods and expand economic opportunities.
He said his administration of the constituency mandate was focused on ensuring that residents had access to opportunities that could make them economically productive and self-reliant.
“Our objective is to ensure that every household in Kano North has something meaningful to do and that our people become economically independent,” he said.
Speaking on the 2027 elections, Barau appealed to constituents to remain united and support President Tinubu, Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, himself and other APC candidates seeking elective positions.
“I appeal to all of us to remain united. Let us continue to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, myself as your Senator, and all candidates of the APC contesting the 2027 elections,” he said.
The Deputy President of the Senate said unity, loyalty and collective commitment would be necessary to achieve what he described as a more prosperous Kano North and a stronger Nigeria.
He further pledged to continue supporting interventions in agriculture, education, infrastructure and other sectors, saying the ultimate goal was to improve the living conditions and economic prospects of constituents.
The engagement came as political activities gradually gather momentum ahead of the 2027 elections, with Barau using his interaction with constituents to reinforce both his grassroots empowerment agenda and his appeal for continued political support for the APC.
