President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, has urged Nigerians to draw inspiration from the message of Easter by promoting peace, tolerance and unity across religious and ethnic lines.
In his Easter message to Christians in Nigeria and around the world, Akpabio called on citizens to reflect on the values of love, sacrifice and peaceful coexistence symbolised by the resurrection of Jesus Christ.
The Senate President’s message was conveyed in a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Eseme Eyiboh.
“On behalf of my family, my constituents, the Senate and the National Assembly, I extend my warmest Easter greetings to all Christians in Nigeria and around the world,” Akpabio said.
He stressed that the significance of Easter should inspire Nigerians to work collectively towards building a nation founded on peace, mutual respect and shared prosperity.
“As we celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ, let us reflect on the values of love, peace and unity that His message embodies. Let us work together to build a nation where everyone can live together in peace, harmony and prosperity,” he said.
Akpabio acknowledged the challenges currently confronting the country, particularly insecurity, but expressed confidence that Nigeria would overcome them through collective resolve and national unity.
“I want to assure Nigerians that we will overcome these difficulties through collective efforts, understanding and prayers. The President is not resting on his oars, while the Armed Forces and all security agencies have been working relentlessly to tame the tide,” he stated.
The Senate President also expressed sympathy with families affected by violent attacks across the country, including the recent killings in Jos.
“I sympathise with families affected by the mindless attacks by terrorists and bandits across the country, especially the recent killings in Jos. I pray that the Almighty God will have mercy on those who lost their lives and console the bereaved families,” he said.
Akpabio further prayed for divine guidance for the nation, urging Nigerians to remain hopeful and committed to building a peaceful and united country.
“May God bless Nigeria, acquaint us with the compass of His course, help us defeat the enemies that have declared war on our people and guide us towards a brighter future,” he added.
He urged Nigerians to use the Easter celebration as a moment of reflection and renewed commitment to national unity, peace and development.
