Former Adamawa governorship candidate and senator, Aishatu Dahiru Ahmed, has officially pitched her tent with the Nigeria Democratic Congress, saying the move reflects the collective decision and aspirations of her political base.
Speaking at her reception into the party, Binani dismissed criticisms surrounding her recent political shift, insisting that her loyalty lies first with the people who have consistently stood by her.
“My supporters remain my priority. Politics is local, and I move with the people. They asked me to join the NDC, and many had already taken that step before I did,” she said.
She emphasized that political relevance and progress are rooted in grassroots support, noting that no leader succeeds without the backing and direction of followers.
Expressing gratitude to the party’s leadership, Binani assured members that she would work to strengthen the NDC’s structure in Adamawa State and contribute to its national growth. She also stressed the importance of fairness, transparency, equity, and internal democracy in sustaining the party’s momentum.
Welcoming her, the National Leader of the NDC, Seriake Dickson, described her entry as a major boost, highlighting her political strength and resilience.
He noted that despite being a relatively new platform, the NDC has rapidly gained traction nationwide, positioning itself as a credible alternative for Nigerians seeking change.
Also speaking, the party’s National Chairman, Moses Cleopas, reiterated the party’s commitment to inclusive politics, youth engagement, and women’s participation.
According to him, the NDC remains focused on building a values-driven political culture anchored on service and conviction.
The National Women Leader, Dudu Manuga, described Binani’s defection as a significant moment for women in politics, assuring her of strong backing from female stakeholders across the country.
Binani’s move is widely seen as a strategic development in Adamawa’s political space, with observers noting that her influence could further strengthen the NDC’s growing grassroots appeal.
