The newly appointed Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Prof. Segun Aina, has unveiled a five-year strategic development agenda aimed at repositioning the Board as Africa’s most trusted, innovative and accessible assessment and admissions institution.
The initiative, titled “JAMB 2031: Building Trust, Reducing Trauma,” was unveiled on Monday as the Registrar officially assumed office, marking what he described as “a homecoming and a solemn responsibility.”
According to a statement issued by the Acting Director of Public Affairs and Protocol of JAMB, Dr. Fabian Benjamin, Prof. Aina said his administration would consolidate the achievements of his predecessor, Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, while introducing reforms driven by technology, institutional excellence and stakeholder confidence.
The statement said the development agenda, covering the period from 2026 to 2031, is built around the Project 2:5:7 framework, comprising two strategic objectives, five enduring pillars and seven flagship initiatives designed to strengthen the Board’s operations and enhance service delivery.
Prof. Aina said the blueprint aligns with JAMB’s statutory responsibility of ensuring fair, credible, secure and equitable access to tertiary education through transparent registration, credible assessments and merit-based placement of qualified candidates.
He reaffirmed his vision of making JAMB a globally respected institution whose credibility would be anchored on strong systems, institutional values and strategic partnerships rather than individuals.
According to the statement, the first pillar of the agenda, Integrity – The Foundation, seeks to reinforce institutional credibility through internationally recognised standards, including ISO 27001 Information Security Certification, independent technology reviews and transparent systems that promote accountability.
The second pillar, Service – The Heart, focuses on improving customer experience through responsive service delivery, transparent communication and stronger engagement with candidates, parents, tertiary institutions and other stakeholders.
Under the Governance – The Framework pillar, the Board plans to strengthen performance monitoring, contract management, operational resilience and internal accountability to ensure efficient implementation of its programmes.
The Technology – The Enabler pillar will see JAMB expand its digital infrastructure through scalable platforms, mobile services, web applications, advanced artificial intelligence and data analytics to improve operational efficiency and decision-making.
Recognising the importance of collaboration, the fifth pillar, Partnerships – The Multiplier, aims to deepen engagement with financial institutions, fintech firms, educational organisations and international partners to drive innovation and improve service delivery.
To deliver measurable results, Prof. Aina announced seven flagship initiatives, including an independent technology review of JAMB’s infrastructure, attainment of ISO 27001 certification, development of a unified JAMB mobile application, strategic communication and brand repositioning, establishment of a unified customer service platform, implementation of a paperless enterprise-wide digital administration system, and enhanced staff welfare and capacity development.
The Registrar stressed that while technology would remain central to the Board’s transformation, people would continue to be its greatest asset.
He noted that every registration represents the aspirations of a young Nigerian and the sacrifices of parents and guardians, assuring candidates that his administration would simplify processes, improve communication and uphold fairness, transparency and integrity in all aspects of the Board’s operations.
Prof. Aina also urged members of staff to embrace innovation, professionalism and teamwork, saying strong institutions are built by people united by shared values and a common purpose.
He reaffirmed his commitment to building enduring institutional systems that would strengthen public confidence and position JAMB as a global benchmark in technology-driven examination and admissions administration.
