The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) and the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) have renewed their commitment to a closer operational partnership aimed at strengthening national security and improving coordinated responses to emerging threats across the country.
The renewed collaboration was underscored during a high-level meeting between the Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, and the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, at the Customs Headquarters in Maitama, Abuja.
The engagement, which brought together senior officials from both agencies, focused on deepening cooperation in intelligence sharing, joint operations, and strategic interventions designed to enhance public safety and national stability.
Speaking during the visit, Comptroller-General Adeniyi described inter-agency cooperation as critical to addressing the complex security challenges confronting the nation. He assured the Police leadership of Customs’ continued support in efforts to maintain law and order and protect Nigeria’s territorial integrity.
According to him, stronger collaboration between security institutions remains essential in combating criminal activities and safeguarding the country’s economic and security interests.
“The Nigeria Customs Service remains committed to working closely with the Nigeria Police Force. Through sustained cooperation and information sharing, we can strengthen our collective capacity to respond effectively to security threats and contribute to a safer nation,” he said.
Adeniyi also congratulated the Inspector-General on his appointment, expressing confidence in his ability to provide effective leadership for the Police Force at a crucial period in the country’s security landscape.
In his response, IGP Disu described the visit as a strategic step towards consolidating the longstanding relationship between the two agencies. He noted that security challenges require collective action and stressed the importance of maintaining strong institutional partnerships.
The police chief assured the Customs leadership that the Nigeria Police Force would continue to work closely with the Service in advancing national security objectives and improving operational outcomes.
“The purpose of this engagement is to further strengthen our relationship and reaffirm our commitment to working together. Strong collaboration among our personnel will significantly improve our ability to tackle security challenges and protect our citizens,” Disu stated.
The meeting also provided a platform for both organisations to review areas of mutual interest and explore new opportunities for cooperation in support of peace, security, and national development.
