National Leader of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, Senator Henry Seriake Dickson, has congratulated Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, on his victory in the state governorship election, urging his opponents to support him in the interest of peace and development.
Adeleke, who contested on the platform of the Accord Party, secured 511,067 votes to defeat the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, who polled 444,815 votes.
The governor won by a margin of 66,252 votes, emerging victorious in 19 of the state’s 30 local government areas, while Oyebamiji won in 11 LGAs.
Reacting to the outcome in a statement on Sunday, Dickson described Adeleke’s victory as a significant moment for both Osun State and Nigeria’s democracy.
He said the election demonstrated that citizens could still exercise their democratic choice through the ballot despite the challenges confronting the political environment.
Dickson commended the people of Osun State for standing by their choice, saying the outcome underscored the importance of allowing voters to freely determine who governs them.
He also appealed to candidates who lost the election to put political differences aside and work with Adeleke towards the peace and development of the state.
“I warmly congratulate the Governor of Osun State, Senator Ademola Adeleke, on his victory in the Osun State Governorship Election.
“This victory is significant not only for Governor Adeleke and the people of Osun State, but also for our democracy. It is a powerful reminder that, even in an increasingly challenging political environment, the people can still assert their democratic will through the ballot,” he said.
Dickson urged all stakeholders to accept the outcome in the spirit of sportsmanship and place the interests of Osun State above partisan considerations.
He further called on Adeleke’s opponents to join hands with the governor in building a peaceful and prosperous state, stressing that the conclusion of the election should mark the beginning of collective efforts towards good governance and development.
