The NDC-Peter Obi Support Network (NDC-POSN) has called for an independent investigation into allegations by the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate, Peter Gregory Obi, that he is being subjected to intimidation and deliberate frustration by the Federal Government.
In a statement issued in Abuja on Wednesday, the support group expressed concern over remarks made by Obi during an interview on the “With Chude” programme, where he claimed that persistent actions against him had raised fears about his personal safety and ability to participate in the 2027 presidential election.
According to the group, Obi alleged that government actions had disrupted his personal and professional activities, citing an incident in which his vehicle was reportedly locked at an airport while others were not. He also claimed that some associates had become reluctant to be seen with him publicly or invite him to private events for fear of possible repercussions.
NDC-POSN described the allegations as serious, warning that any attempt to harass, intimidate or isolate opposition figures could undermine Nigeria’s democratic process and public confidence ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The group reaffirmed its support for Obi and his running mate, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, stating that it remained committed to pursuing its political activities through peaceful and lawful means.
It called on the Federal Government to conduct a transparent investigation into the allegations and ensure that no individual or institution interferes with the constitutional rights of political opponents.
The support group also urged security agencies, including the Nigeria Police Force and the Department of State Services, to guarantee the safety of Obi, his family and other political actors participating in Nigeria’s democratic process.
NDC-POSN further appealed to political stakeholders to uphold the rule of law, respect fundamental human rights and ensure a level playing field as preparations for the 2027 elections gather momentum.
While urging its supporters across Nigeria and the diaspora to remain peaceful and law-abiding, the group maintained that its campaign for what it described as a “New Nigeria” would continue despite the alleged challenges.
