The Wife of the Kogi State Governor, Hajiya Sefinat Usman Ododo, has described the simultaneous observance of Ramadan and the Lenten season as a rare opportunity for collective moral renewal, urging residents of the state to translate spirituality into unity, peace, and responsible citizenship.
In a statement issued to mark the commencement of the fasting periods, the First Lady said the convergence of the two religious seasons should serve as a rallying point for Muslims and Christians to strengthen communal bonds and work together for the advancement of Kogi State.
She stressed that values such as self-discipline, sacrifice, compassion, and accountability—central to both Ramadan and Lent—are critical not only for personal spiritual growth but also for building a stable and progressive society.
According to her, Kogi’s development agenda would gain momentum if citizens internalise these principles in their daily interactions, governance participation, and support for community initiatives.
Hajiya Sefinat also called on religious leaders and faithful to use the fasting period to pray for peace, responsible leadership, and economic growth, noting that spiritual commitment must reflect in actions that promote harmony and social justice.
Reaffirming her advocacy for vulnerable populations, the First Lady reiterated her dedication to programmes supporting women, girls, the elderly, and other disadvantaged groups, adding that her office remains open to citizens seeking intervention and support.
She further urged parents and guardians to pay closer attention to the welfare and conduct of their children, while calling on residents to remain vigilant as the government intensifies security operations against criminal activities in parts of the state.
While wishing Muslims and Christians a meaningful Ramadan and Lenten season, Hajiya Sefinat encouraged residents to extend kindness and support to the less privileged, saying collective compassion remains essential to building a peaceful and prosperous Kogi.
