The Adamawa State Police Command has intensified its crackdown on criminal activities, arresting 57 suspected members of Shilla gangs and other criminal elements during a coordinated operation across Jimeta, Girei, and Yola Town.
The operation, carried out under the directive of the Commissioner of Police, CP Kabiru Umar Hassan, targeted identified criminal hideouts and black spots within the Yola and Jimeta metropolitan areas as part of ongoing efforts to combat gangsterism, drug abuse, public nuisance, and related crimes.
According to the Command, the exercise was conducted by Divisional Police Officers under the supervision of their respective Area Commanders and resulted in the arrest of 57 suspects for offences linked to Shilla-related activities, possession of dangerous weapons, public disturbance, and involvement with prohibited substances.
Police operatives also recovered various dangerous weapons and suspected banned substances during the raid. The exhibits have been documented and are expected to be presented as evidence during prosecution.
The Command disclosed that the suspects have been charged to court in accordance with the law, while further profiling and investigations are ongoing to establish their possible involvement in other criminal activities across the state.
CP Kabiru Umar Hassan commended the officers who participated in the operation for their professionalism, dedication, and commitment to maintaining law and order. He reaffirmed the Command’s resolve to dismantle criminal gangs and ensure lasting peace and security in communities across Adamawa State.
The Police Command also called on residents to remain vigilant and continue providing credible and timely information to security agencies to support crime prevention and detection efforts.
The latest operation forms part of the Command’s sustained strategy to rid the state of criminal elements and strengthen public safety.
